Become a UMA Externship Partner

An externship partnership with UMA can provide you with a source of trained, career-focused allied health candidates ready to contribute to your organization. For more than 30 years, UMA has been preparing students for meaningful careers in healthcare by building both the foundational knowledge and professional skills employers value, from communication and accountability to workplace readiness.

Why become a UMA externship partner?

Today, UMA partners with more than 1,000 healthcare employers nationwide — including local, regional, and national healthcare organizations — to provide externship opportunities that give students the chance to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world healthcare settings. For employers, these externships function as extended, real-world interviews that provide an opportunity to evaluate candidates for their professionalism, adaptability, and readiness to grow.

Our Partnership Approach: From Placement to Performance

Placement

The UMA externship/professional practice experience team coordinates documentation, scheduling, and liability insurance coverage. We work with you to execute the clinical affiliation agreement, define extern responsibilities, and coordinate onboarding and placement logistics.

Preparation

We help prepare UMA students for success, helping externs complete orientation and verification — as well as readiness activities to help them meet your professionalism, communication, accountability, and other workplace expectations.

Performance

Throughout the externship/professional practice experience, UMA remains actively involved with students, coordinate scheduling and placement logistics, and facilitate final evaluations. Through it all, we serve as a point of contact for questions or concerns that arise.
