American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Training

Understanding how to help people who are choking, drowning, or are suffering from cardiac arrest can be the difference between life and death. It can improve a person's chance of surviving until further care is available. The American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS) course is designed to teach CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a variety of settings.

Crisis Center of Tampa Bay Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) are often the first responders to have contact with patients in need of urgent care. Observing and assessing the patient and stabilizing life-threatening injuries are important functions of this role. The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay TransCare Emergency Medical Technician Apprenticeship program teaches the skills necessary for responding to and transporting patients with a variety of healthcare needs. In this apprenticeship program, UMA provides the training needed to prepare Crisis Center of Tampa Bay employees for certification. You must be a Crisis Center of Tampa Bay employee to enroll in this program.

BayCare Patient Care Technician (PCT) Training

Patient care technicians (PCTs) assist patients with their basic health needs including those related to hygiene, eating, physical movement, and more. In this training program, BayCare employees work as nurse helpers one shift per week while undergoing educational training at UMA. Once the UMA training is completed successfully, students may be promoted to a full-time PCT position at BayCare. You must be a BayCare employee to enroll in this program.

Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa (CDC of Tampa) Nursing Assistant Training

Nursing assistants provide direct patient care services such as bathing and dressing patients, taking vital signs, and assisting with mobility. The CDC of Tampa has partnered with UMA to identify learners for nursing assistant training including hands-on instruction and classes to prepare to take the Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam after graduation. This program consists of hands-on educational training at UMA followed by an externship experience in a healthcare facility (45 hours).

Medication Administration Training

The administration of medicine is a common practice in healthcare. It's also an important clinical process that can determine how much a patient benefits while under care, or whether the patient has any adverse effects from medicine. This course allows unlicensed direct service providers to supervise the self-administration of medication or to administer medications to a client.
